Robin Day
2000s

A major retrospective exhibition, Robin and Lucienne Day – Pioneers of Contemporary Design was held at the Barbican Art Gallery in 2001, accompanied by a book of the same name.

The revival of interest in Robin’s historic work led to new design commissions when he was in his late 80s. He relished the fresh challenges, working in a ‘studio shed’ in the back garden of the Chichester house.

He was consulted on the refurbishment of his 1951 Royal Festival Hall auditorium seating (still in use after 55 years), and attended the re-opening celebration concert in June 2006.

In September 2010 he attended the U.K. premier of the documentary film Contemporary Days: The Designs of Lucienne and Robin Day.

Robin survived Lucienne by nine months, and died aged 95 on November 9th 2010.
